E-Commerce
In the coming five years, the number of Europeans shopping online will grow from 100 million to 174 million. The average yearly Net retail spending will grow from around EUR 1,000 to EUR 1,500. Overall, this will cause European E-Commerce to grow from EUR 102 billion in 2006 to EUR 263 billion in 2011. (Europe´s E-Commerce Forecast: 2006 to 2011, Forrester Research, 2006).
Card Payment over the Internet has several advantages:
- You can reach cardholders throughout the world.
- You can receive payment - and do business - 24 hours a day.
- You can receive settlement of funds from VALITOR in a wide range of currencies.
- You will receive settlement of funds quickly.
- Your customers can carry out secure transactions with their credit cards on the Internet.
Regarding sales over the Internet, as well as mail and telephone orders, the credit card is not physically present, and you are unable to identify the cardholder in the same manner as when the cardholder is present. Accordingly, you as a merchant usually bear the risk associated with all purchase transactions on the Internet, via mail and through telephone orders. However, merchants can and are encouraged to minimise their own risk by using security services like Verified by Visa and MasterCard Secure Code.
