Bishop’s Stortford company Chip & PIN Solutions was established in 2004. Twelve years on, it has a head office workforce of 40, a sales force of almost double that and provides tens of thousands of card terminals to businesses nationwide.
The card payment services provider deals in everything from mobile card machines and portable Bluetooth card machines to fixed-line countertop card machines and contactless ‘wave & pay’ card machines, supporting events such as Henley Regatta, Jamie Oliver’s Fabulous Feasts and London private members’ dining establishment Mosimann’s Club.
Its success is rooted in going the extra mile for its clients, according to Chip & PIN Solutions managing director, with the company resolving 95% of out-of-hours technical calls in less than two minutes.

The company was originally based in Maurice House in Southmill Road in Stortford before moving to larger premises, Stansted House, on the Raynham Road industrial estate in April 2012. It has provided “mission critical” mobile terminals for the AA and a range of products for companies from BMW and Domino’s Pizza to Virgin Trains and Liverpool FC.
Key partners have included Bishop’s Stortford Chamber of Commerce, the Guild of Master Craftsmen, the National Market Traders Federation and electronics giant Sharp, with which Chip & PIN partnered to provide the UK’s first mid-range integrated cash register for the hospitality and retail sectors.
Closer to home, Chip & PIN was previously the main shirt sponsor for Bishop’s Stortford FC and has received a mayoral Civic Award.
Its products have featured on TV shows such as EastEnders, Coronation Street and Casualty.
Notably in 2012, it donated more than 20 credit card machines to a ball in support of Bailey Sarwa from St Albans, a 13-year-old boy who was suffering his second bout of aggressive cancer. The event raised more than £11,000, with £5,744 coming through card.
Chip & PIN’s future is in continuing to develop pioneering technology for the industry.
